Jamie's lifelong interest in art
began during a trip to South Africa with a gifted watercolour set. From that point on he would never be too far from his paints.
Whilst initially inspired by African wildlife, his interest later shifted to the human form. After taking classical Atelier style drawing and painting classes Jamie began to fully focus on portraits to capture emotion, moments, vulnerability, sensuality, love, pain and compassion.
"I'm attempting every time I paint to capture something of the human condition. The way we see beauty, the way we see ourselves and the way we see the world."
Jamie has described a fascination with light, drawing inspiration from the Impressionists and their ability to capture a moment whilst expressing their individuality through brushstrokes.
"I battle keeping a looseness in the way I paint vs. trying to refine my skills through realism. I learn constantly."
Jamie has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2020 and Brick Lane Gallery in 2021
